Woman in army uniform

Daughters in front of their mother's portrait.

This portrait of Anne Thomas, (nee Apthorpe), in uniform was painted when she was in the air force, based at the Castle in Cape Town, during WW2. She was newly married and her husband was also in the services. Both her daughters visited the Museum and explained that their mother believed that girls could achieve anything given a good education and opportunity to develop their talents.
