Danny Shorkend exhibition

Kabbalistic Paintings

4 - 25 April 2017

The exhibition will be opened by: Dr Ashraf Jamal

Opening: 4 April 6.30 for 7pm

Walkabout with the artist: Thursday 6 April at 11am

Drawing from influences as far ranging as the kabbalah, the sciences, judo and aesthetic, formal awareness, these paintings attempt to translate the ineffable sense of energy and dynamism within the visual language of art, specifically painting.

To the extent that this is 'read', it is hoped that a sense of the abstract concept of infinity might manifest or emerge.

Primarily situated as a form of expressionism, these abstract and symbolic methods and worlds suggest that both the aesthetic and extra-aesthetic dimension facilitate a meaningful exchange between the perceiving consciousness and the weight of the object - the paintings.

At times the raw truth, it's very bareness, is exposed, while at other times meaning is arrested behind a veil of mystique and concealment. At a certain point one simply does not know the answers to the more philosophical questions, for even the questions may be flawed, yet one might still thirst and desire for understanding, wisdom and knowledge manifest within the time and space of the material realm of things...words...thoughts and action. Lechaim!
